In the words of Katy Perry... 🎀🎡

Becky Mollenkamp

As Katy Perry said...

"You're hot, then you're cold; you're yes, then you're no."

That pretty much sums up how I've been feeling since the inauguration.

One day, I feel motivated and engaged. The next, I want to hide in a hole.

For a while, I fully believe that truth, justice, and humanity will prevail. Then, I can't find an ounce of faith in anything.

I'm not a fan of roller coasters, and this one is especially vom. 🀒

But this is a normal reaction to a very abnormal situation.

The world is topsy-turvy, so of course my emotions are, too.

Are you feeling the same way, Reader?

If so, here are a few things that have been helping me during this exceptionally challenging time...

FREE WORKSHOP

The stock market is tanking and tariffs are going to spike prices. If paying down your debt is becoming a priority for 2025, then don't miss this free workshop on THURSDAY. Start making a dent in your debt (without judgment or shame!).

6 ways I'm surviving the ride:

β†’ Compassion: I actively remind myself not to judge my feelings or reactions. Human-ing is always tough. Add the world being on fire, and of course everything is more intense and difficult.

β†’ Rest: A world on fire is emotionally draining and physically exhausting. It's important to get plenty of sleep (and other restorative activities) to deal with the stressβ€”and to maintain capacity needed to stay in the fight for change.

β†’ Community: Humans are pack animals because it's harder to kill a herd. Our survival depends on having others in our corner, even in modern life. My biz besties are keeping me sane, and regularly talking me off ledges.

β†’ Collaboration: I could never work FOR anyone again, but I do miss working WITH others, so I'm leaning into partnerships this year. Having someone else equally invested in the results of a project helps me get to work when I'd rather hit the sack.

β†’ Joy: Finding ways to smile is extra important right now, when there's so much making me frown. I binged 17 seasons of Taskmaster on UK's Ch. 4 in 2 weeks 🀣 I'm also getting lots of snuggles, eating baked goods, and reading fiction for the first time in decades.

β†’ Creativity: I'm trying to channel anxious energy into creativity. I'm *thisclose* to launching a new course (Ask for What You Want & Get It) that I've had fun creating. I'm also taking up a hobby of painting rocks to spread some joy around my neighborhood.

Oh, and I bought a $75 used recliner for my office so that I can kick back and work under a cozy comforter with my pup in my lap. Eventually I'll find my way back to my desk, but for now this feels like the safe cocoon that I need to survive.

YOUR TURN: How have you been feeling? And how are you caring for yourself?

Hit reply and tell me. I'd truly love to hear so we can support each other and learn from each other!

A degree in Gender & Race Studies. If I could afford to go back to school, I'd get an MA in Gender & Race Studies. Every year or two, I search degree programs online. "Someday" I tell myself. But why wait?! While I value the college experience, I also know that universities are (often unnecessary) gatekeepers. The internet has democratized knowledge, and I can create my own damn degree program. Enter: Assigned Reading, a new podcast featuring all the essays I'd want to read in a Gender & Race...

How to give without getting pissed. I had a great call today with one of my favorite clients (you know who you are 😘). She shared that she's feeling overwhelmed by all the awesome and unpaid opportunities coming her way. It's tough to find people willing to pay for anything with a recession looming, but there's no shortage of folks asking for people to be on their podcasts, speak at their event, help them promote an offer, etc. I felt this conversation in my bones after having just talked on...

Becky Mollenkamp Want to fight against oppression? Sen. Cory Booker shows us how. As I write this, I've been watching C-SPAN coverage of Sen. Booker's "filibuster" (okay, not technically a filibuster, but it shares that spirit) for 6 hours straight. He's now in the 20th hour of a nearly non-stop speech on the Senate floor in protest of Trump's agenda. As I'm listening, I'm feeling something I've not felt much since Election Day β€” hope. Most especially at this incredibly powerful part of his...
