I'm in awe 🀯

I don't know what to say, honestly.

I'm still in awe.

Last week, I sent this email, and it was the hardest thing I've ever written.

(And that's coming from someone who has shared every "secret," including having had 2 abortions, having cheated on her ex-husband, and having lost her brother to heroin).

The next day, I felt such regret that I sent this email talking about that, too.

About 37% of you saw those emails, and 13% of my total email list unsubscribed. But nearly as many people (36) sent me replies offering encouragement and solidarity.

You also generously gave me 290.32 (Venmo/Paypal), and 535.50 in purchases. That very nearly has me at the 1k I need to pay my tax bill for the 2024 year.

I have a long way to go to deal with the financial pressures I face (replacing the roof and car still loom large), but it gives me hope. And that's worth so much.

Grateful doesn't feel like a big enough word to describe how I'm feeling as I enter this new week.

Thank you to everyone who didn't unsubscribe, who offered a kind word, and especially to those who offered up monetary support in whatever way they could (I've hopefully replied individually to each of you).

A quick plug...

Today is the last day (ever!) to sign up for the Wandering Aimfully business community, run by Jason and Caroline Zook (below).

They are changing their business model in the next year, so this is the last enrollment period for their coaching space before that pivot.

And I can't recommend it enough.

I've been a member since 2017, and I have learned SO MUCH from this pair about marketing, running a community, and how to walk your talk when it comes to people-first values.

These two are the real deal.

Here's the important bit: They have the coolest business model, where you pay them once and then you get access to anything they create after that. Like, forever.

If the 2k price tag feels big, and it is, just know this. I paid that much 8 years ago, and I've never paid them another penny.

I still attend their monthly coaching sessions. I still show in their super active Slack community every day. I still use their course-hosting platform (included in the price), and I still access their DEEP vault of resources.

We may not know exactly what's coming next in their business, but we do know that we members will get access and support that makes our initial investment soooo worth it.

And this is a community of incredible business owners.

>> I hope you'll consider joining me in WAIM because after today, you'll never be able to. Seriously. <<

Plus, if you sign up using my affiliate link, you'll be helping my financial situation a bit, at no additional cost to you. Here's my link to check it out.

Finally, a reminder...

Ask for what you need.

I'm so good at preaching it and awful at actually doing it. This last week has reminded me that I can't be the exception to my own rules.

I asked, people helped, and now I feel a lot better.

Also, tell people what you do! I had more than one person reply to my emails saying, "I didn't really know what you do" or "I didn't know about all of these things you offer."

And I get it. I love to show up in my email to share personal stories, offer up tips, uplift others' voices. But I almost never explicitly outline the ways people can support my work.

Finding a healthier balance is so important. So learn from me. Go tell your community what you do and how they can support you β€” clearly and without apology β€” today. It's not easy, but I promise it's important and worth it.

Again, thank you for being here and supporting me. It truly means the world.

Yesterday, I sent a really vulnerable email. Here's how the next 24 hours went. I'm sorry for sending 2 emails in 2 days, but I'm always deeply curious when someone else sends an email like the one I sent yesterday. Did they get what they asked for? Was it as embarrassing as they feared?Do they wish they hadn't sent it? So, here's a 24-hours-later update. First, the data: Open rate is 32.78%, a solid 10% lower than usual. 18 people (or .05% of my total list) unsubscribed. The click rate was...

Reader, This isn't the easiest email to send. Entrepreneurship has been especially challenging this year ... for me, and for so most of my clients and biz buddies. Business is slower, money is tighter, and the emotional weight of the world is heavier. I'm about to get really vulnerable. If that's not your thing, probably best to delete now. My coaching business has been scarily quiet in 2025. I haven’t signed a new 1:1 client this year, and I’m about $1,000 short on a tax bill I need to pay...

A degree in Gender & Race Studies. If I could afford to go back to school, I'd get an MA in Gender & Race Studies. Every year or two, I search degree programs online. "Someday" I tell myself. But why wait?! While I value the college experience, I also know that universities are (often unnecessary) gatekeepers. The internet has democratized knowledge, and I can create my own damn degree program. Enter: Assigned Reading, a new podcast featuring all the essays I'd want to read in a Gender & Race...
