Who needs college? ๐ŸŽ“

A degree in Gender & Race Studies.

If I could afford to go back to school, I'd get an MA in Gender & Race Studies. Every year or two, I search degree programs online. "Someday" I tell myself.

But why wait?!

While I value the college experience, I also know that universities are (often unnecessary) gatekeepers. The internet has democratized knowledge, and I can create my own damn degree program.

Enter: Assigned Reading, a new podcast featuring all the essays I'd want to read in a Gender & Race Studies program.

Each week, I invite a brilliant friend to also read one of those essays and have a chat about it with me. On camera. ๐Ÿคฃ

This show is for the big nerds like me, who miss college cram sessions, talking about interesting ideas with other people who are also eager to learn.

It's a show for people who want to dig deeper into Audre Lorde, Angela Davis, bell hooks, and more ... with smart friends.

It's for those who never had the chance to study this stuff in college.

It's also for those who did study it, but miss taking time to talk about it.

It's a show for people who care about social justice, can't afford a return trip to college, and appreciate an anti-capitalist, community-rooted way to learn.

This is where big ideas meet big feelings, and I hope youโ€™ll tune in.

๐ŸŽง The first three episodes are live now, and a new episode will drop every week this summer.

Listen wherever you get your podcasts or head to my website to check it out.

The first 3 episodes of my new podcast, Assigned Reading, will drop everywhere on May 13th.

This is going to be so good!

Will you do me a favor?

The first week of any new podcast is a critical one. This is when Apple and Spotify decide whether this is a show people care about (and, thus, will feature) or if it's yet another show to put into "no man's land" of un-discoverability.

Can you pretty please take a couple of minutes and do these things to help Assigned Reading have a chance?

  1. Rate and review on Apple Podcasts (must be done from your phone).
  2. โ€‹Rate on Spotify (you must listen to a few minutes of an episode first).
  3. โ€‹Subscribe on YouTube (it's an embarrassingly low number right now!).
  4. โ€‹Email info about the show to your list, text it to a friend, share it on social.

I can't emphasize enough how much these simple things really help.

Thank you for being a most amazing human!

How to give without getting pissed. I had a great call today with one of my favorite clients (you know who you are ๐Ÿ˜˜). She shared that she's feeling overwhelmed by all the awesome and unpaid opportunities coming her way. It's tough to find people willing to pay for anything with a recession looming, but there's no shortage of folks asking for people to be on their podcasts, speak at their event, help them promote an offer, etc. I felt this conversation in my bones after having just talked on...

Becky Mollenkamp Want to fight against oppression? Sen. Cory Booker shows us how. As I write this, I've been watching C-SPAN coverage of Sen. Booker's "filibuster" (okay, not technically a filibuster, but it shares that spirit) for 6 hours straight. He's now in the 20th hour of a nearly non-stop speech on the Senate floor in protest of Trump's agenda. As I'm listening, I'm feeling something I've not felt much since Election Day โ€” hope. Most especially at this incredibly powerful part of his...

Becky Mollenkamp I'm depressed. But this isn't about that, exactly. This is about the reality of trying to run a business right now, the power of vulnerability, and the importance of community. ... I'm overwhelmed by the state of the world. It's a struggle to accomplish more than just the essential personal and professional tasks. It's bizarre to see entrepreneurs "business-ing as usual" right now. I understand that we all have to compartmentalize sometimes, but c'mon, this is Code Red. I'm...
