A heavy heart ๐Ÿ’”

Change is inevitable.

Here in the Midwest, people love to say "if you don't like the weather, wait a few minutes and it will change."

The same can be said about life. Nothing stays the same for long.

For the first 3 months of the year, 90% of my brain space was taken up with fear and worry about the new administration.

Those very real concerns remain, but then Tax Day changed my perspective.

Money troubles took up 90% of my brain space as I tried to figure out how to pay a very late tax bill. [Y'all helped me solve that issue and I am so grateful.]

Money remains a major problem (still need a new roof and car), but Monday brought yet another change.

In the early hours, my father-in-law died after battling cancer for more than a year. We knew it was coming, but we thought we had a bit more time.

Now, 90% of my brain space is occupied by thoughts of how best to help my husband and son through the grief ahead.

I've been alive long enough to know that this year isn't an exception. Life is a roller coaster of change, and all we can do is hold on and try to enjoy the ride.

As entrepreneurs, we can also build our businesses in ways that allow us to react to change without everything falling apart.

A giant thanks to my biz partners and friends Faith Clarke and Taina Brown for being so understanding and helpful as I've been dealing with these changes this year. And to everyone else who has reached out at various points to offer support and care.

If you don't have a community that does that for you, start creating it. Before you need it. I promise that future you will be so grateful.

It's been a bit since I reminded you about Assigned Reading podcast. I'm trying to decide whether to do a Season 2. Listener numbers are very low, which is discouraging, but I love doing it. Should I stop or keep going? Hit reply and tell me!

Consent matters. This is your chance to opt out.

A head's up that in 2 weeks, I'll be starting a "watch me build this" series here. I'll share at least once a week I'll share behind-the-scenes insights into a major shift I'm about to undertake in my business (going from Becky Mollenkamp LLC to a new umbrella company with a new name and myself as CEO).

If you don't want to follow along, but would like to remain on my regular email list, please click here. I won't remove you from my list, but won't include you on the "watch me build it" series emails.

As always, thanks for being here.

PS: Want to help me replace my 19-year-old car that's about to die (with another used, but less old, car)? Here are two low-cost ways to support me:

The doubt stage has arrived. It's been a minute since I've shared a behind-the-scenes peek at my shift from a personal brand to Selvedge Works. There's a reason for my silence. I'm re-thinking EVERYTHING. Can relate to this? You have an idea, feel 100% stoked about it, start to implement, and then suddenly get hit by panic. What if it's a huge mistake?! That's where I am. And I've felt stuck here for nearly two weeks. As certain as I felt about Selvedge Works last month, I now feel equally...

NOT INTERESTED IN PODCAST-RELATED CONTENT? CLICK HERE Hi, Reader, This is short note to announce something ๐Ÿ”ฅ If you host a podcast (or are dreaming of creating one), don't miss Drop the Mic. It's not the usual "how to be the next Joe Rogan" BS you're probably used to. We know that shit isn't realistic + it's gross. This is real talk from real indie creators, hosted by the Feminist Podcast Collective. Instead of how to get 1M downloads, land celebrity guests, and score a rich sponsor (reality...

Pre-S: This is part of a "watch me build it" series, where I'm detailing in real-time a massive re-brand in my business. If you don't want to get this series, click here to opt out but remain on my regular email list. ๐Ÿชก Watch Me Build It, Week 2 Why Selvedge Works? Last week, I told you that Iโ€™m rebranding my entire business to (hopefully) better package the myriad projects I'm involved in. Today, I want to share how I chose the new name. For nearly two years, the word amplify has lived...
